Written By: Julie Pile (@juliepile), President, Rotary Club of Florence
In the annals of history, few events have left as indelible a mark on the collective consciousness of our nation as the tragic events of September 11, 2001. As we approach the solemn anniversary of that fateful day, we are reminded not only of the immense loss suffered but also of the incredible resilience and unity that emerged in its wake.
As we gather to commemorate the lives lost and the heroes who emerged from the ashes, Colonel Patrick Kanewske will remind us that the stories of 9/11 are not just a chapter in history but a testament to the enduring strength of the human heart. Please join us for this poignant and inspiring event, where we come together to honor, remember, and find inspiration for a brighter future.
Patriots Landing is a rural, faith-based veterans workshop in Grant County, Kentucky located on 2.5 acres next to the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North. It will house multiple programs, all centered around healing, while enhancing the lives of veterans and their families.
Patrick Kanewske was born in Pennsylvania and raised in Dallas, Texas. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1974, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1981, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Colonel Kanewske commanded at the platoon, company, and battalion level, including combat command during Operations DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM, and deployments during Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM.
Colonel Kanewske attended the Amphibious Warfare School, the Naval Postgraduate School, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the Naval War College. He holds master’s degrees in Military Studies, Systems Technology, and International Relations.
Colonel Kanewske was assigned as the Chief of Staff of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Central Command, Tampa, before retiring in July 2011 with 33 years of active service.
In January 2016, Patrick was hired by Answers in Genesis (AiG) to help build the Ark Encounter then became its director. Currently, Patrick volunteers as a speaker and Volunteer Manager for AiG, is a recruiter for the Naval Academy Admission Department, and is the Director of Operation Honor’s Patriots Landing in Williamstown, a faith-based veterans workshop.
Colonel Patrick will be sharing the impact of Patriots Landing with the Rotary Club of Florence (@FlorenceRotary) on Monday, September 11, 2023. An organization which epitomizes Rotary International President Gordan McInally’s theme of Creating Hope in the World.
